The Alateen site says that “Alateen is part of the Al-Anon fellowship and is for Young People who come together to:
-
- Share experience, strength and hope with each other.
- Discuss their difficulties and problems caused by their parent’s drinking habits.
- Learn effective ways to cope with their problems.
- Confidentially support one another.
- Encourage one another.
- Help each other understand the principles of the Al-Anon program.”
If a Family Member Drinks Too Much…
The National Association for Children of Alcoholics (NACoA) advocates for children and families affected by parents who abuse alcohol. NACoA suggests that children use the “Seven C’s” to help counter some of the negative effects of living with alcohol abuse. The “Seven C’s” are:
- I did not cause it
- I cannot cure it
- I cannot control it
- I can care for myself by:
- Communicating my feelings
- Making healthy choices and
- By celebrating myself
